The Day of The Event
The day first took place in October 2005. It has taken place on a Friday in October ever since.
In Bromsgrove, we have been able to pull together businesses, local organisations, schools, churches, local performers and people in general, to show good will, to offer them selves freely.
Last year the High Street was alive with several schools handing out homemade cakes, singing, dancing and performing in bands and street cleaning. The local Police force joined in the fun offering gifts and advice. The local housing organisation gave free advice and a local community resource centre formed a kindness team in their local area. Other local areas had kindness teams, as did the High Street where 100’s of flowers were, handed to passers by.
Local nursing homes visited the town and enjoyed free hot drinks from a coffee and sandwich store whilst enjoying the entertainment.
There were various local performers and the local Town Twinning association talkd to passers by and in conjunction with our twinned towns in Germany, Italy and France released balloons in celebration of the fact that three towns in three different countries were enjoying kindness days.
We delivered gifts to the local Hospice and local shops gave gifts and got involved in other ways.
In 2007, The Smiles Foundation joined in highlighting the plight and needs of the orphaned children in Romania. The Romanian Childrens Choir flew over to perform and a Kindness Day took place in Cihei, Romania.
In 2007 and in 2008 Kindness concerts were, held at The Bromsgrove Artrix theatre.
Everyone actively involved in the event give themselves freely which is fantastic but an important part of the day is for everyone and anyone out there to acknowledge that this is the moment to consciously do something for someone else no matter how small. It is an opportunity for us to be, for a moment, what we were, always meant to be and to do, for a moment what we were, always meant to be doing.
So, once again, this year the day happens in Bromsgrove, shall we make it happen all over the country? Shall we make it happen all over the planet? I hope we do.
